Jonathan Rose
Sales & Stock Co-ordinator

Years at Three Oceans: 1
Years in the industry: 8

Roles and responsibilities:

Jonny's role is to look after the product provision and logistical requirements of Three Oceans continually expanding customer base.

As a part of the Rose family, fish has been a part of Jonny's life since as far back as he can remember. After starting in the fish industry, his working life has taken in a wide variety of sectors including many years in the freight forwarding industry, a key skill set that he now brings to his logistical role at Three Oceans.

Away from work:

Jonathan loves cooking, especially for his partner Amanda. He also enjoys travelling and absorbing himself in the cultures of other countries. And altho recently turned fifty he is also a passionate video gamer!

Seafood opinion:

As Jonathan says “Serve me my seafood Spanish style any day of the week.” And when in Spain he finds the best seafood is generally found in backstreet cafes that are full of locals and where the fish is reasonably priced.

Goal:

"To forecast future sales to perfection and to keep unnecessary excess stock in the cold-store to a minimum."

Neilsen Busk
Site Technical Manager

Years at Three Oceans: 1
Years in the industry: 18

Roles and responsibilities:

As the head of the Technical Team Neilsen's role is to ensure that the three key technical pillars (safety, legality and quality) are rock solid and best in class.

Neilsen brings extensive manufacturing experience to the team, having worked with most of the major UK retailers.

His fish and technical knowledge is second to none and has been previously rewarded with two retailer awards for outstanding technical & hygiene practices. He has participated in numerous worldwide seafood conferences and has also played a key role helping developing countries to supply seafood products into the EU markets.

His challenge is to improve quality and technical standards with the ultimate goal of delivering the highest product quality to the Three Oceans customer base.

Away from work:

Neilsen is a family man through and through. He is a keen sportsman, actively participating in field hockey at a high level and is also a keen and committed Hull FC supporter.

Seafood opinion:

Neilsen enjoys all seafood, his favourites include haddock, monkfish and king prawns. He has been known to 'develop interesting dishes' that are not always to everyone's taste!

Goal:

"To help Three Oceans become the Centre of Excellence for UK seafood manufacturing"

Michelle Walker
Quality Assurance Co-ordinator

Years at Three Oceans: 1
Years in the industry: 17

Roles and responsibilities:

Michelle is the latest recruit to the Three Oceans technical team, bringing with her over 17 years of valuable QM experience in a wide range of food products that will now be focussed on fish and seafood. Her remit is to assist the production team in maintaining the company's exceptionally high quality standards as the business continues to grow and develop.

Michelle's early ambition was to become a policewoman but due to a leg injury was unable to follow that dream. How apt then that she has now become a 'police woman' of all things technical for three Oceans.

Away from work:

Michelle is an avid supporter of rugby league and is a lifelong fan of Hull FC. When she's not singing in the stands, she enjoys a wide and varied taste in music and likes to spending her valued spare time with her son and husband.

Seafood opinion:

Michelle's favourite fish dishes are Sea Bass, Salmon and of course Haddock a true Hull favourite.

Goal:

"To uphold the 'laws' of quality and consistency on which Three Oceans is built."

Captain Sustainable is our special ambassador for school children. His job is to promote the health and dietary benefits of fish and to explain the importance of sustainable fishing to school children and their teachers.

As a fun cartoon character, Cap'n 'S' finds it easy to relate to school kids and has a knack of getting them to try out new and exciting recipe ideas and at the same time, understand what a precious a resource the worlds fish stocks are.

Working closely with our development chef and sales team, he has helped Three Oceans to increase the levels of healthy fish dishes on school menus and educate school children and their teachers to the many benefits of eating more fish from sustainable sources.

Rachel Dillon
Executive Assistant

Years at Three Oceans: 17
Years in the industry: 17

Roles and responsibilities:

Rachel's role is rather like that of Mission Control.

She has been Tim's PA for 17 years and is his confidential link with Three Oceans when he's away on business.

In addition she also looks after the confidential administrative needs of the of the senior management team including ensuring that all travel needs are met when any of the team are on business abroad, she can put the average travel agent to shame.

Rachel also oversees all non fish purchases, keeping a careful eye on spending and raising POs for everything needed to keep the business running and factories operating smoothly.

If asked to manage the next space shuttle launch Rachel would ensure it ran as smoothly as the production line at Three Oceans.

Away from work:

"To keep 'mission control' running smoothly."

Kevin Parker
Stock Coordinator

Years at Three Oceans: from day 1!
Years in the industry: 28

Roles and responsibilities:

Some might say Kevin is a 'grumpy sod' but that's probably because he has the unenviable task of keeping tabs on a vast and ever changing stock. He has to check prices against orders for every single item that enters or leaves Three Oceans and ensure that a mountain of paperwork is completed correctly. In short, Kevin makes sure that every 'i' is dotted and every 't' crossed and has his nose firmly on the grind stone from the beginning to the end of every working day which doesn't leave much time for smiling.

Away from work:

Well “there's not much time for owt else” says Kevin in his typically candid Yorkshire fashion, but outside of his working life Kevin devotes his time to family and grandchildren. He was a keen Rugby League player in his youth and has the nose to prove it.

Seafood opinion:

Kevin is big fan of Shellfish of all types but is particularly partial to fresh crab which he enjoys served with fresh warm bread.

Goal:

"A hassle free week!"

Dennis Futty
Quality Assurance Manager

Years at Three Oceans: 5
Years in the industry: 30

Roles and responsibilities:

Dennis has a passion for quality and 'getting things right' and makes it his business to keep abreast of any changes to legislation. Here at Three Oceans his principle role is quality assurance within the factory and he is at the sharp end of the BRC quality standards that must be maintained throughout all UK based production processes.

Dennis makes sure all products are closely scrutinised for the slightest changes in colour, coating, weight and shape to ensure the highest possible quality is maintained. This also involves taking part in daily tasting sessions to check the cooked taste and texture of all our products.

Away from work:

Dennis enjoys cooking, walking, music, reading and socialising with friends.

Seafood opinion:

Fish is a regular part of Dennis's diet, featuring at least twice a week. As a keen cook he regards white fish as a 'perfect blank canvass' on which to try out sauces and other ingredients for seafood recipes. Personal favourites include Haddock and Seabass but he is also keen to try out new, sustainable species.

Goal:

"To exceed BRC standards"

Goal:

"To keep everyone happy."

Mark O'Conner
Production Manager

Years at Three Oceans: 2
Years in the industry: 3 (frozen food sector)

Roles and responsibilities:

It is Mark's job to make sure the factory and everyone in it is working at optimum efficiency, which as you might imagine is quite a demanding job and if it isn't he is where the buck stops.

Just about anything you can imagine comes under his scrutiny. He is not a man to shy away from responsibility and constantly pushes the team to raise the 'standard' bar to improve quality, reduce waste and ensure that everyone on the shop floor is accountable.

Having gone to pretty extreme lengths to procure the finest quality fish from the worlds oceans, it falls to Mark to make sure that none of this precious commodity is wasted.

Away from work:

Marks life revolves around family. He is a keen martial arts competitor and keen fisherman, oh and he also restores and rebuilds the occasional motorcycle… a quiet life really!!

Seafood opinion:

Mark has held a fascination for fish all his life. White fish and prawns are a regular feature of the O'Connor family diet.

Goal:

"Nothing less than 100% efficiency."

Jill Burke
New Product Development

Years at Three Oceans: 1
Years in the industry: 17

Roles and responsibilities:

Jill brings a wide array of skills to her role at Three Oceans that have been honed throughout a long career in the food industry.

Jill partners Geoff at 'front of house' adding value and 'a bit of theatre' to new product presentations with creative menu ideas, advice on choosing the right species and creating delicious and original coating recipes.

Jill has a thorough production focussed approach and works closely with the production team ensuring that all products can be made profitably for both Three Oceans and clients alike.

Tastings are a daily and vital part of Jill's work and there is no shortage of 'guinea pigs' (work colleagues and clients) to provide hands on taste testing feedback throughout the new product development process.

Seafood opinion:

She has brought up her family to enjoy fish and seafood, regarding it as a healthy, versatile and protein rich food.

Her personal favourites include Dover Sole, Halibut and Sea Bass, especially when eaten in Jule's Restaurant in Portugal. Locally the Burke family also enjoy good old traditional fish and chips.

Goal:

"To create high quality delicious new recipes and traditional product lines that maximise Three Oceans and client partner profit margins."

John Dale
Chariman

John has over fifty years experience in the seafood industry and has seen many changes during that time, much of it in the last five years. He has worked with Tim since the business was founded and thoroughly enjoys working with a young, spirited and passionate team.

John lends an experienced ear and 'holds court' at board meetings. He is, perhaps not surprisingly, passionate about fish and his vast knowledge of this intriguing and ever changing industry is a major asset to Three Oceans.

For all his years of experience he is not a man to look back and reflect, he has his sights set firmly on where Three Oceans is going and how it can improve its position as 'the' benchmark for quality seafood.

Away from work:

John's family takes up most of his spare time. The current tally of three grand children are perhaps testament to that.

Seafood opinion:

John's fascination for fish also extends to his diet. He is very pro seafood from both a health and sustainability perspective not to mention flavour, texture and variety.

Tim is a hands on leader with his finger firmly on the pulse of the world's fisheries and a nose for exactly when, where and which species to procure. As the chief fish buyer for the business he ensures that only the best quality fish arrives at Three Oceans, without which the rest of the business would have no foundation.

His accumulated knowledge of many individual fish species must be up there amongst the best in the industry and he is a huge supporter of sustainable fishing policies.

His pursuit of quality in both product and service is relentless and he instils this belief in every member of the Three Oceans team.

Away from work:

Tim adores family life. He is a keen competitor and enjoys all country sports, golf and snowboarding. He is a lifelong supporter of Leeds United Football Club.

His brief is to plan for growth through a continuous program of technical development to ensure that Three Oceans continue to deliver their long standing quality promise as the business grows.

As a keen petrol head, he likens his role to that of a mechanic, ensuring that all the production parts of the business are running smoothly, constantly tuning them for higher efficiency and increased output.

Away from work:

Mark is a local lad and has ridden the rollercoaster of emotions that has been supporting Hull FC for 40 years. He is a self confessed petrol head and also enjoys getting out into the countryside with his Golden Retriever Sam.
